TTF Parents Corner

Hello TTF Parents/Guardians,
This page is designed specifically to help you with your child's success in Taekwondo and to also give you a forum for whatever is on your mind as it pertains to your child's goals, training, or other related topics.

How do I get my child to practice Taekwondo at home?
You work hard all day and are paying for your child's Taekwondo lessons, so naturally you want your child be successful.  Here are tips to help your kids practice their Taekwondo more at home.

Create a designated area for practice
Depending on the size of your house or apartment, do your best to create an open space big enough to practice. There is absolutely no chance of success if there is no space in which to practice. The space does not have to be as big as our school space. Plenty of space is an area of 10ft. by 10ft.

Agree on a set practice time each day
Consistency is important for a child's success, therefore set a practice schedule for your child each day. When structuring the schedule, make sure it does not interfere with school homework or dinner plans.

Another important point is the length of practice time. We recommend that your child practice no more than 20 minutes a day in addition to their regular weekly class times. Too much practice time for your child may get them burned out. If your child enjoys practicing longer, then that can be encouraged as well.

Reward your child
Positive praise and encouragement goes a long way to creating motivation in your child as they really want to please you. However, a few tangible rewards wouldn't hurt either. These rewards can be as simple as letting them watch their favorite TV show, play their favorite video game, or being excused from a household chore for completing a full week of practice times. If you are feeling really generous, then you can reward your child with a prize of a book or new toy.

You know your child best and you know what motivates them most. If you can build a rewards system into their training program, then the chance of  long term success will go up considerably. Be careful not to overuse your rewards system as to make it ineffective to your child.
